Breathwork in Asheville does not have to feel like a trend or a performance. At As Within, our Deep Rest Recovery sessions are a quiet, private way to slow down, breathe well, and let your body settle. Each session blends guided breathwork, somatic meditation, and the low resonant tones of the didgeridoo. The goal is simple: to help you shift out of stress and into deep rest, so your body can do what it does best when it feels safe.

I am Evan Kueffner, the trainer and owner of As Within, a one-on-one studio in downtown Asheville. A back injury ended my athletic career and sent me deep into breathwork and meditation as I rebuilt my own body. These practices changed how I live, and now they are the heart of what I offer here.

What a Deep Rest Recovery session feels like

You arrive, take off your shoes, and lie down. The lights are low. I guide you through slow, gentle breathing, nothing forced or extreme, just simple patterns that help your body downshift. As you settle, I add somatic meditation, which means gently bringing your attention to physical sensations in the body rather than getting lost in thought. Then the didgeridoo comes in, a wind instrument with a deep, steady hum you can feel as much as hear.

Most people describe the experience as floating, or as the kind of rest they did not know they needed. Some drift near sleep. Some feel tension they had carried for weeks quietly let go. There is nothing to achieve and nothing to get right. You simply lie there and receive.

A nervous system reset

Your body has two sides to its nervous system. One side handles effort, alertness, and stress. The other handles rest, digestion, and repair. Modern life keeps many of us stuck on the effort side, running warm all day, even at night. A nervous system reset in Asheville means giving the rest side real, dedicated time to come forward.

Breathwork is one of the most direct ways to do this. The way you breathe sends signals to your body about whether you are safe or under threat. Slow, gentle breathing tends to invite calm. During a session, I help you practice this on purpose, in a quiet room, with no screens and nowhere to be. This is education and gentle exercise, not medical treatment. If you have a health condition or any concerns, please talk with your doctor first.

Who Deep Rest Recovery helps

These sessions are for anyone carrying more tension than they would like. That often includes:

  • Stressed professionals who feel wound tight and struggle to switch off at the end of the day.
  • Athletes and active people recovering from hard training who want to support how their body repairs.
  • Anyone with ongoing tension, tight shoulders, a busy mind, or poor sleep who wants a calmer baseline.

You do not need to be flexible, fit, or experienced with meditation. You do not need to be good at breathing. You only need to be willing to lie down and let the session do its work.

How it complements strength training

Real resilience is built on both sides of the nervous system: the ability to work hard and the ability to fully recover. Strength training teaches your body to exert. Deep Rest Recovery teaches it to rest. When you train only effort and never practice rest, progress stalls and stress builds. When you train both, you tend to feel steadier, sleep better, and come back to your workouts with more in the tank.

Many of my clients pair private strength coaching with regular Deep Rest Recovery sessions. Together they form a more complete practice: build capacity, then let the body absorb the work. You are welcome to do either on its own, or to weave them together over time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any experience with breathwork or meditation?

No. Breathwork in Asheville at As Within is fully guided, so you never have to figure anything out on your own. I lead you step by step, and every session meets you exactly where you are.

How is this different from a massage or a nap?

A massage works mainly on tissue, and a nap is unstructured. Deep Rest Recovery guides your nervous system toward calm on purpose, using breath, gentle attention, and sound. Many people find it reaches a deeper layer of rest than sleep alone.

Can I do a session with a friend or partner?

Yes. Sessions can be private or shared with up to four people, so you are welcome to bring a partner, friends, or family. Pricing ranges from $140 to $330 based on the size of the group.

Is this safe if I have a health condition?

These sessions are gentle education and exercise, not medical care. I am a trainer, not a doctor. If you have any health condition or concern, please check with your doctor first, then we can adapt the practice to suit you.
